Troubleshooting LED Drivers
Most field failures trace to a short list of causes. Match the symptom to the fix.
Flicker
- Incompatible dimmer. A leading-edge dimmer on a driver expecting 0-10V/DALI flickers. Match the dimming type.
- Low PFC / ripple. Cheap drivers pass visible ripple to the LEDs. Use a quality driver with low output ripple.
Audible buzz
Usually from a magnetic or older dimmer, or an overloaded driver. Replace the dimmer or de-rate the driver.
No light
- CC polarity / open circuit. A constant-current driver needs a complete LED loop; an open LED string gives no output.
- Input wiring. Confirm mains and any switched live are present.
Early failure
Over-temperature is the top killer. Check the Tc point and enclosure ventilation; an IP67 driver in a sealed, hot fitting derates fast. Leave wattage headroom so it runs cool.
