How to Read an LED Driver Label
The label is the spec sheet in miniature. Here is what each line means.
Output
- Constant current: shown as a current range with a voltage window, e.g. 350–700 mA @ 24–42 V. The driver holds current and the voltage floats.
- Constant voltage: shown as a fixed voltage and max current, e.g. 24 V, 2.5 A max.
Input
The mains range (e.g. 100–277 V AC) and frequency. A wide input range suits global markets.
Max power and efficiency
Rated watts and typical efficiency (often 85–93%). Use the wattage for sizing.
IP and Tc point
IP rating (see IP20 vs IP67). The Tc point is the measured hottest spot on the driver; the luminaire designer must keep the LED and driver below their rated Tc.
Markings
CE, UL/cUL, ENEC, and dimming type (0-10V / DALI). These tell you where and how you may use the driver.
