48V Telecom Battery Guide
This is the practical spec sheet for a 48 V LiFePO4 telecom backup.
Core specification
- Topology: 16 cells in series (16S), ~51.2 V nominal, charged to ~58.4 V.
- Capacity: commonly 50–300 Ah (2.4–15 kWh) per cabinet; parallel for more.
- BMS: cell balancing, protection, and reporting over RS485/CAN, often with SNMP gateway.
Form factor
Rack for equipment rooms; wall-mount or pole-mount for street and edge sites where floor space is nil. Confirm the cabinet IP rating for the environment.
Integration with the power plant
- Float the pack on the -48 V bus; the rectifier charges it and the load draws from it on mains loss.
- Match the charge profile to LiFePO4 (CC-CV, temperature-limited) — do not use a lead-acid-only charger unmodified.
- Bring BMS data to the NOC via the BMS communication guide.
Sizing
Start from site load (W) and target autonomy (h), then pick capacity from the runtime calculator. XGW's 48V Telecom Battery covers 50–200 Ah.
